Environmental Science and Technology is intended for students who demonstrate an aptitude for the study of science and who intend to continue their scientific studies in the Secondary 5 Chemistry and Physics option courses. This option course addresses additional concepts, and focuses on the development of critical judgement, citizenship, and scientific skills. A further goal is to help students adopt environmentally ethical attitudes, values, and behaviours. A variety of teaching strategies are used to develop and strengthen students’ problem solving and communication abilities, and to encourage the acquisition of subject-specific knowledge. Whenever possible, situations based on current issues relating to science and the environment will be used.
Chemistry is an academically demanding course designed to prepare students for CEGEP science programs. Students are expected to demonstrate mathematical problem-solving abilities in conjunction with a fundamental understanding of the course topics.
