Central to our program is the goal to encourage our students to seek out multiple sources of information so as to gain a broader based perspective on given topics. In an age of media saturation, Villa students learn to sift through often conflicting information in an effort to reach valid conclusions.
In Cycle One (Secondary 1 and 2) the Geography program is focused on the concept of territory, defined as a social space that human beings occupy and modify, and to which they give a specific meaning and form of organization. For students enrolled in the Français, langue d’enseignement program, and one group of Francais langue seconde, programme enrichi, this course is taught in French.
In Cycle One (Secondary 1 and 2) the History and Citizenship Education program aims to enable students to develop their understanding of the present in light of the past, and to prepare them to participate as informed citizens in the social life of a democratic society. For students enrolled in the Français, langue d’enseignement program, and one group of Français langue seconde, programme enrichi, this course is taught in French.
The History and Citizenship Education program in Cycle Two challenges students to think critically about historical patterns, trends and developments in this century, and throughout the world. The focus in Secondary 3 and 4 is specific to Canada’s history, politics and social landscape, with a particular emphasis placed on the study of Quebec.
