The arts stimulate bodily awareness, nourish the imagination and contribute to the development of self-esteem. In practising an art, students draw on all aspects of the self—body, voice, imagination, culture—in order to convey their perception of reality and world-view. (MELS, 2007)
Drama at the Villa begins with the establishment of a trusting and supportive ensemble. In a comfortable environment, students explore their creativity, awareness and spontaneity. Their experience in Drama comes together with a full scale production at the end of the school year.
The students experience the joy of performing, designing and mounting their own sets, making their own props and costumes, and gaining an awareness of the technical mechanisms of theatrical production. In Secondary Four (4) students write and direct their own productions.
Drama is offered as a Arts Education Option course in Secondary Three (3) and Four (4).
