Student Life Activities

Complementing its rich academic programs, Villa Maria provides a broad array of services and activities which allow the students to nurture their talents and enhance all aspects of their personal growth – the social, the emotional, the spiritual, and the physical.

These Student Life activities offer the girls experiences which they will take with them for life. Many individuals, volunteers and services touch the students’ lives in some way each day.

Junior School

Students entering Secondary One are welcomed into the Villa Maria family and school culture in a number of ways. On registration day, Secondary One students attend a number of activities and workshops designed especially for them. During the first weeks of the year, the Assistant Directors of Educational Services work with the students to help familiarize them with the school culture and daily routines such as, the school agenda, school policies and procedures, and Junior activities. Our entire school community works hard to welcome and support the new students as they adapt to school life at Villa Maria.

Throughout Secondary I and II, students participate in the Junior Activities program. These compulsory activities, offered approximately once a week, provide students with the opportunity to spend more time with their peers while developing skills in a variety of areas. Students can enrol in activities such as Assault Prevention, Babysitting, Choir, Drama, First Aid and CPR, Yoga, Public Speaking, Crafts, Band, and Dance.

Social Awareness and Community Involvement Activities

Students at Villa Maria learn that respect is a fundamental value essential to social peace and mutual understanding. We encourage students to participate in a variety of activities which stimulate social awareness. Students at all levels may choose to participate in Amnesty International, Environmental Club, Volunteering, Development and Peace, Christmas Baskets and Fund Raising.

The school's membership in the Quebec Student Debating Association and the Quebec Association of Independent Schools affords them many opportunities to participate in debating, public speaking and writing competitions. Annually, several Villa students are finalists in the Commonwealth Essay Competition, and others have their work published in First Fruits.
