Villa Maria students learn that respect is a fundamental value essential to social peace and mutual understanding.
Villa Maria’s unique Pastoral Animation service is designed to fulfil both individual and collective needs for meditation, prayer and worship. It covers every aspect of school life, offering opportunities to develop the spiritual dimensions of the person and instil values that transcend the purely academic. This service encourages students to integrate meaningful commitment into their lives.
The Pastoral Animator coordinates a number of spiritual-community activities such as multicultural and interfaith activities, drop-in centre, Mass, and Level Retreats, and community service activities such as the annual Christmas food drive and the compulsory community service program.
The community service program begins in Secondary 1 with a 10 hour commitment, continues in Secondary 2 with 15 hours, and Secondary 3 with 20 hours of volunteer community service. Secondary 4 and 5 complete a two year commitment, totalling 40 hours of community service, culminating in a 10 page report. These volunteer hours are made compulsory to help students develop social accountability and deeper self-knowledge, leading to mature and responsible citizenship.
