Villa Maria is more than a school, it is a way of life, a big family where girls grow into mature, confident, young women ready for the challenges of a complex society . Our entire educational community is committed to the success and well-being of each and every student.
The two Assistant Directors of Educational Services are responsible among many things for student attendance, discipline, school activities and trips, and General Assemblies. They know the students personally, and are deeply involved in the rich variety of school life services that make the Villa Maria program unique.
The Assistant Directors are available to listen, direct, educate, and lead our students. This type of personalized supervision allows every student to feel valued and know that her needs are being addressed.
Teachers are available during scheduled lunch times and/or after school to work with and help students review their class work. We encourage all students to attend availability as a way of reviewing course work and improving their study habits.
Parents of Villa Maria students are invited to play a central role in their daughter’s education and personal development. To this end, parents are invited to attend scheduled Parent-Teacher Interviews twice a year. Further, parents can rest assured that faculty will communicate with them directly should their daughter not be meeting learning expectations established at the beginning of the year.
In order to foster a sense of community and belonging , and to encourage students to take responsibility for their learning environment, each group is assigned a homeroom. In almost every case, teachers move from room to room while students remain in their homerooms.
The safety and security of the entire Villa Maria community is of critical importance to us. To this end, we have updated our security systems and procedures which includes practice drills with our students.
An emergency plan has been prepared in collaboration with a specialized firm, and with the City of Montreal Police Department. This plan has been distributed to the district police and fire stations.
In order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students, Villa Maria employs a team of non-teaching supervisory staff that assist in monitoring students while they are at school.
Supervisors assist faculty and administration in ensuring that the rules and regulations are respected.
In an effort to provide students with every chance at academic success, Villa Maria maintains a list of external tutoring services in the community. Such tutoring services are independent of Villa Maria, and any contract made between a tutor and parent/guardian is a private agreement. Villa Maria maintains the tutor list in order to facilitate student learning, and assumes no responsibility for the agreement, rates, or results.
