The English sector entrance exam is conducted in English, and is comprised of four (4) tests: language ability, math, reading comprehension, and writing evaluation. These evaluations are conducted within a three and a half (3.5) hour period. Once accepted, new students will sit a French placement test which will determine their placement in the French language program.

Students are expected to dedicate between one (1) and two (2) hours to homework and review each night, depending on the grade level.

Between 400 and 500 students write the entrance exam annually. Each sector admits a maximum of 130 girls into Secondary 1.

The average class size is thirty-one (31).

There are approximately 600 students in each of the two sectors, one English, the other French.

During lunch and after school, students are encouraged to participate in one of the many activities available such as tutorials with classroom teachers, intramural sports or organized activities and clubs. Students may also make use of the library or computer lab to complete homework or study, individually or in groups.

The school entrance exam is based on the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the elementary school years. A student who has worked hard and succeeded up to that point should be able to pass the entrance exam without difficulty.

Students may not leave school grounds during school hours without the express permission of their parents and the school administration.

Students at Villa Maria come from 80 different countries and speak 26 different languages.
