From Mozart to Multimedia

The Villa Maria Music School provides high quality, flexible and affordable music education programs for all students. Not only do they learn to play an instrument, they also develop a dedication to excellence, hopefully discovering that the pleasure offered by music can last a lifetime.

People of all ages outside Villa Maria may also study music at the Villa Maria Music School.

Villa Maria Students
Students may choose:

  • Classes within the school schedule
    Wind Orchestra, Chamber Music or Private Lessons
    Classes taught in French
  • Classes outside the school schedule
    Private lessons only
    Classes taught in French or in English

Wind Orchestra

Students will learn creative, critical and technical skills. They will study the fundamentals of music and acquire instrumental techniques. Students will also have an opportunity to compose music by using their instrument and music composition software.

In addition, students in the Wind Orchestra will be offered the loan of an instrument, and their studies will be enhanced with a minimum of five workshops with a visiting professional musician.


Chamber music and private lessons

Students may choose from one of these instruments:

Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, Classical Guitar, Popular Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano, Voice

Chamber Music

Chamber music is offered as an optional course to Villa Maria students who already play an instrument. The level of proficiency - Intermediate to Advanced - requires students to take or to have taken private lessons.

Private Lessons

Lessons are offered within the school schedule, as an optional course, or as an extracurricular activity at lunch or after school. The teacher will choose the type of program and repertoire in consultation with the student.

In addition to one-on-one classes, students will have the opportunity to work in small ensembles in the creation, performance and appreciation of music.

Diploma

Every student who has registered and completed the required exams may receive a diploma issued by a school recognized by the ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport.

  • Christmas and year-end concerts
  • Spiritual Concert entitled Magnificat at Notre Dame Basilica, with a choir composed of the 2001 graduates
  • Concerts in seniors residences
  • Ballroom evenings
  • Variety shows
  • Music competitions
  • Production of Cds

General Public

People of all ages outside Villa Maria may also study music at the Villa Maria Music School. The students and their teacher will agree on the frequency, time and duration of classes.
