From June 30 to July 11, seven Villa Maria students and two teachers had the experience of a lifetime when they traveled to China. The group explored Beijing and Shanghai, walked along the Great Wall, saw the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'An and extended their adventure by also visiting Hong Kong. Everyone returned home with many stories to tell and pictures to share!

Grad Ball

High fashion and elegance marked the annual Villa Maria Grad Ball held at the Marriott Chateau Champlain June 26. Ms. Maria Di Scala and her Grad Ball Committee organized a wonderful evening which was enjoyed by all - the grads and their escorts, the parents and the faculty.

Awards Banquet

Awards Banquet - the traditional "school closing" event - was held June 18 with over 350 people in attendance. Bursaries and Special Recognition prizes were given out to deserving students from all levels. Special thanks to the Mothers' Guild who help serve the buffet dinner and who contribute the funds towards both scholarships and bursaries each year.

The 156^th graduating class celebrated the fulfillment of five years of study at Villa Maria after their graduation ceremony was held June 12 in the Thérèse Casgrain Hall.

Villa Maria's Most Valuable Players were honored at the annual Greater Montreal Athletic Association's (GMAA) MVP Dinner on May 11. The school was also presented with the associations "School Sportsmanship Award" banner.

Girls for the Cure

The 15^th Annual Girls for the Cure Walk will be held on September 23^rd. Villa students will join the students of sister schools Trafalgar, ECS, Queen of Angels Academy, The Study and Sacred Heart atop Mount Royal, culminating a fundraising campaign aimed to assist in research and treatment of all women-related cancers.

"The girls start this experience in Secondary 1 as wide-eyed walkers and they end their journey as mature young women who have, over their five years, significantly contributed to a cause that they now fiercely hold dear to their hearts and see as part of their high school experience and identity," explains Sandra Louis, Assistant Director -Student Services.

STUDENTS SHINE AT REGIONAL SCIENCE FAIR

All eight projects presented by fifteen Villa students at the Bell Montreal Regional Science Fair hosted by Concordia University on March 23^rd were honored. Two teams will go on to the Super Expo-sciences Bell, Québec Final, in April.

Villa Maria congratulates students and teachers for this extraordinary level of achievement.

Art teachers Mrs. Long and Mrs. Pilon mounted an Art Vernissage in conjunction with the 2010 Science Fair. Works of sculpture, charcoal, sketching, watercolours and more were on display including pieces from all grade levels.

CAREER DAY

Villa's annual Career Day was a huge success and Secondary 4 and 5 students were able to hear from and speak to over 40 panel presenters. Guest speakers included 19 Villa alumnae who returned to share their experiences with their fellow Villamarians!

EQUITAS

The Villa Maria Amnesty International group sponsored a human rights seminar moderated by Ian Hamilton, Executive Director of Equitas. The students explored their knowledge of basic human rights and examined their role in sensitizing others to the importance of these rights.

ROYAL 22ND REGIMENT

On January 27, Villa Maria students were treated to a special performance by the concert band of the Royal 22nd Regiment. The concert was organized by Music teacher Rolland Côté and featured Villa Maria alumna, Sergeant Julie Archambault, Class of 1993.
