iPad program

The iPad Program allows students to access information and classroom material while promoting active learning.

The iPad is a learning tool for students in Secondary 1 through 4 (Secondary 1 through 5 starting September 2017). It is used in class for a variety of educational purposes, including:

  • E-textbooks
  • Subject-specific apps
  • Note-taking
  • Research
  • Word processing
  • Multimedia creation
  • Document sharing
  • Communication

The school uses several online platforms to allow students and parents to organize and structure their learning online: 

STUDYO – STUDENT SCHEDULE + AGENDA

Provides access to students’ schedule, evaluations and homework.

HAIKU – STUDENT LEARNING MANAGEMENT

A learning platform with a plethora of features including access to course outlines, classroom notes and resources shared by teachers.

COBA – SCHOOL PORTAL

The school’s internal platform, which allows parents and students to access student grades, absences, subject progress and library database.

Technological Support for Parents & Students:

Villa Maria understands that navigating technology in education can be complicated, and that both parents and students may need assistance in this area.  The school has put several measures into place to provide technological support and guidance to both parents and students.

iPAD CLINICS

At the end of August, before school begins, Villa Maria offers iPad clinics for new students who require assistance setting up their iPads as learning devices.  Parents can sign up for these clinics where students will be walked through how to download their e-books, create an Apple i.d. and download the learning apps needed for their iPads.

TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION EVENING

In the fall the school hosts a technology information evening. This information session provides parents with information about the iPad Program and the school’s technological platforms as well as helpful tips on how to manage students’ screen time.

iVILLA SQUAD

The school has a group of students who are trained as resident iPad experts.  These students are available to assist other students who need help with their iPads or with technology in general.  

TECHNOLOGY & CYBER-CITIZENSHIP COURSES

Villa Maria has integrated courses on technology and cyber-citizenship into the school curriculum.  At the junior level, students learn how to use their iPads as a learning tool and explore technologies such as coding, robotics and sound editing. The course also focuses heavily on cyber-citizenship and online safety. It promotes online safety and teaches students about the benefits and responsibilities that come with being a technology consumer.

IPAD CLINICS (by appointment only)

In order to book an appointment to receive help configuring your iPad, you must first click on the following link : http://bit.ly/2qTPdu4This link will take you to a pre-verification survey to help us to determine your needs and allow you to choose your iPad case (depending on your model). After completing the survey you will be able to book your iPad clinic appointment.

The clinics will take place in the chapel. You come in through the main entrance.
